Wave Batik SS20

"Underneath the colours" was the working title for our SS20 collection. The reference came from the title track and name of the 2nd album by Australian band INXS, who's fashion style (at that time) was an eclectic mix of military and workwear styles paired with 80s mainstream fashion.

One afternoon whilst working on print fabric ideas we were trawling through old MTV footage of INXS and the search threw up a Youtube clip of the band performing "Stay Young" on an Australian music TV show called "Countdown". The show featured a wavy backdrop which we thought would work really well as a repeat print for our summer batik collection.

Our skilled team in Bali then set about making a repeat fabric print, which involved creating a 50x50cm carved wooden relief of the pattern. A negative mold of the pattern was then cast in copper and used to hand stamp hot wax onto fabric which is then dyed. The fabric is washed to remove the wax and reveal the base colour, the final result is the Wave Pattern fabric, which we then used to create the capsule collection of:

Kelapa Batik Shirt, Volley Short, Beach Pant, Bucket Hat and Bum Bag.

The Kelapa Shirt is a loose summer short sleeve shirt with Cuban collar. Boxy straight fit, and single chest pocket.

Volley short, loose fitting mid thigh beach short with 2 side pockets and a drawcord waist.

Beach Pant, loose tapered pant with stitched style patch pocket, 2 open back patch pockets and drawcord waist.

Fillmore Bucket hat - double layered batik construction.

Jazzies Pack - Oversized bum Shoulder bag. 2 Zip pocketed compartments and adjustable Nylon webbing straps.
